The Leather Hatchery: Old Metamora Calander of Events

About Our Name

The Leather has had a few names since Sidney and Rosemarie Cowen it opened in Metamora in 1976.
The first shop was located across from the waterfall.
At that time the was was RM Leather. When the shop moved to its current location the name was changed to R & M Leather (after their children Rob & Monte). When Sid health failed and he was not able to run the shop Rosemarie and Dale Hartlage took over the day to day operation and renamed it Fair Exchange. In 2009 the named was changed again to The Leather Hatchery.
The name The Leather Hatchery came from the town where Rosemarie and Sid called home Spartinburg Indiana where at one time tey owenand opperated an grocery & restruant the building at one time was an funeral parloe it was also an Egg Hatchery and then an grocery & resturant. so the leather came from Leather and Hatchery frron the building in the town they call home.
